More about M. Oldman

Miss Oldman has been a serious and devoted artist for over 30 years. Her training in glass started twenty years ago when she began mastering the process of carving glass with pressurized sand. She soon commenced developing her own distinctive technique, combining light shading with deep carving to create intricate and balanced compositions. Her unique ability to translate a two-dimensional line drawing into a three-dimensional sculptural work continues to distinguish her style from more traditional techniques of glass etching.

Oldman's formal studio art beginnings were focused within a study of printmaking utilizing zinc and copper plate etching. This early training allowed her to explore and to become adept in complex line drawing. An emphasis on the importance of process began early on to define her art and led to her current signature as a skilled glass artist who produces finely detailed work.

A wealth of techniques and experiences contribute to the artists creations, offering art collectors choices from a diverse body of glass compositions. Her philosophical approach remains much the same whether working on a commissioned architectural installation or planning a slumped sculptural form. She strives to create beauty that will give the viewer a sense of order, providing comfort in the chaos of human experience. She applies metaphorical meaning beyond that dictated by the form or the theme of a piece, in order to communicate a personal narrative, which is unspoken. By combining both abstract and representational design styles, she creates art that is both complex and balanced. Her goal is to stir a viewer's emotional sense.

Currently, Oldman collaborates with a metals artist both to formalize her sculptural creations, as well as to translate architectural-scale designs into metal. Her latest creations explore Renaissance, traditional Japanese, and nature themes. The variety of her projects enables her to produce simultaneously distinctive and complex works of art.
